ANNOUNCING A REVOLUTION from JBC
Printer Friendly Page - See Soldering Iron Evaluation by an Independent Contract Manufacturer
Back to the AD2950 Page

The Advanced Series is a revolutionary and powerful new concept that has an instantaneous thermal response. All JBC soldering and desoldering tools shown on this web site comprise the advanced series technology...the most advanced in the industry.

We can state that Advanced Series stations provide an 80% improvement in performance compared to the best soldering station currently available in the marketplace.

Hereunder we show you some of the outstanding features, displayed in a graphic comparison, that confirms this performance.

GRAPHIC COMPARISON
A conventional soldering station takes from 10 to 90 seconds to reach 350º C. Any Advanced station with a 20W soldering iron gets there in 2 seconds, giving you some idea of the response capability of the Advanced system.   Here above you can see the temperature fluctuations and time taken to perform the same series of five solder joints.
While the conventional station suffers a temperature drop of 70º C and needs 16 seconds to complete the job, the Advanced station drops off only 30º C and achieve it in just 8 seconds.

WHY IS THE ADVANCED SERIES REVOLUTIONARY?

Basically, because it uses a compact cartridge which has a great heating capacity and has a built-in thermocouple located in the heating element. It is consequently very sensitive to variations in temperature.

This heating system, an exclusivity of JBC, is based on a minimum mass and thermal inertia. The results of this is an instantaneous recovery, supplying quick power  and extremely reduced losses of temperature.

These features allow you to:
Solder at a lower temperature
Take advantage of tips that last 3 to 5 times longer
Always work with the adequate geometry of tip without interruption in your work.

Features of the JBC AD2950

Low temperature soldering
The rapid capacity of recovery will enable you to work at a maximum temperature of 370ºC compared to existing systems that are as high as 450ºC. Thus you will eliminate the risk of damaging the board or the component applying heat in excess and improve the quality of your solder joint.
Life span of the cartridges
As soon as the tool is parked on its stand, the temperature immediately drops to 475ºF (Settable within the unit itself) and enables you to take the advantage of a 3 to 5 times longer life of the tip. When you take the tool back to use it, the thermal recovery operates instantaneously. The cartridge, which is comprised of both heating element and thermocouple, has an almost indestructible structure.
Handy tools
The 20W and 50W soldering irons are currently the lightest and smallest soldering iron handpieces available, providing the shortest tip-to-handle distance in their class.
Easy calibration
Since the Advanced technology is based on a microprocessor drive, you do not have to recalibrate any of the Advanced stations, nonetheless you can easily calibrate your soldering tips thanks to TI 2650 Thermometer and the internal software.
Two in One
You will be able to remove and replace one cartridge to the other without interrupting your work session, and thanks to the instantaneous thermal response you change tips and be soldering in less than 10 seconds.

Benefits for the Production Line Operator:
Production can be increased by as much as 80% with the JBC advanced Soldering System.
Comfort for the operator with small grip handpiece and flexible burn retardant cord.
Accurate pinpoint soldering can be attained with very short tip to grip distance.
Tips can be changed from small to large and continue soldering within 10 seconds without calibration.
When leaving for lunch, the operator can place the handpiece in the bottom of the stand, thereby reducing the tip to room temperature. After arriving back from lunch, the operator will place the handpiece at the top of the stand for sleep mode, or continue soldering after waiting for about 5 seconds to reach full temperature.
Tips that last 3 to 5 times longer (sometimes up to eight times longer) than conventional soldering tips.

Benefits for the Repair Technician:
All of the above plus added benefits
Since the technician will have his iron in the stand more than he will be using it, the sleep mode becomes a prominent issue. For production line soldering the sleep mode is set at the factory at 550˚F. For the repair technician, I would recommend a setting of 450˚F.  I recommend this because the response time is so fast when coming out of the sleep mode, and tips do not seem to oxidize much below 450˚F. This saves time cleaning the tip, plus the tips will last much longer. (Some operators are experiencing up to eight times longer).

Added Information:
One customer asked me "how long would the handpiece last when changing cartridges often". I asked that question to the factory and their response was "the handpiece was cycled 100,000 times plugging and unplugging cartridges and showed no detrimental wear to the handpiece".

Comparison graphs of our nearest competitor can be found here.

See how easy it is to replace the cartridge - Can you see why you can change to a different cartridge (Tip) and be soldering again in less than 10 seconds? Think of the time you can save.

Taking out the cartridge Moving to another Seating the new cartridge

Changing tips takes about 3 seconds and give about 5 seconds heat up time.
